Cinnamon, Indonesian (Ground)

    • Harvested in Indonesia from the bark of a cassia tree*, Cinnamomum burmannii, our Indonesian cinnamon has a sweet, spicy flavor from its 3% essential oil content.  Because of the lesser oil content than its cousins - Chinese cinnamon (4%) and Vietnamese cinnamon (5%) - the spice is more versatile to use in a variety of sweet and savory dishes.  Click on the "Recipe Ideas" tab to find out more.

We offer our Indonesian cinnamon in ground form, or in stick form (hand-selected to ensure the highest quality product).

*In the US, because of the similarities in flavor, we generally recognize four distinct types of cinnamon: Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum), Indonesian cinnamon (C. Burmannii), Chinese cinnamon (C. Cassia), and Vietnamese/Saigon cinnamon (C. Loureiroi). However, only Ceylon cinnamon is true cinnamon, i.e. bark from a cinnamon tree. The remaining “cinnamon” types are actually bark from cassia trees, which have a higher essential oil content, giving them a more pronounced flavor and aroma than true cinnamon.  If you would like to learn more, explore our article "Spices Unearthed: Cinnamon & Cassia".
