With a deep, yellow hue, and a spicy flavor reminiscent of horseradish or wasabi, our Chinese Hot Mustard Powder is the key ingredient to making a great Chinese dipping sauce for egg rolls, fried shrimp, pot stickers, and more. You can also try sprinkling it into homemade sandwich spreads or salad dressings for an added kick, or into a marinade to give your BBQ meat some zip.
To make a simple Chinese hot mustard, mix 2 parts Chinese hot mustard powder with 1 part cold water. Let sit for 10 minutes to allow heat to build. For a more flavorful version, mix 3 parts Chinese hot mustard powder with 1 part cold water, 1 part soy sauce, and 1 part rice vinegar.
"Wow! Now that's a mustard powder! We could actually taste it in a finished quiche. I love mustard powder in quiche, but this was the first time that we actually tasted it. Hubby commented that it was the best flavored quiche I had ever made!" - MJ, from New Mexico. To make MJ's quiche, head over to her blog, MJ's Kitchen.
